Highly Trained Staff

Waterford Symptomatic Breast Centre, established in 1996, is the sole Breast Cancer Centre in the South Eastern Cancer network.

It provides a high quality service which addresses all aspects of care for women affected by breast cancer, benign breast disease and those seeking breast reconstruction.

It is staffed by highly trained Consultant Breast/ Reconstructive Surgeons, Radiologists, Pathologists, Oncologists and supported by dedicated nursing, radiological, physiotherapy, clinical and administrative staff who collaborate in a multidisciplinary fashion to achieve our excellent patient outcomes.

New and return clinics take place from Monday to Thursday in outpatients 6, including family history assessment. These clinics see upwards of 4000 new patients and 2700 review patients yearly.  Over 200 new breast cancer patients are diagnosed and treated per year.

Access to genetic counselling and local lymphoedema treatment can be facilitated through such clinics.

A separate radiology area with private changing facilities emphasizes our ethos of patient comfort and safety. This modern imaging facility is equipped for biopsy procedures under local anaesthetic.

Four breast care nurses, with specialist training and experience in breast care are present at the breast clinic and are available for all patients where necessary during their visit. They also provide emotional, practical and social support to patients and their families, before admission, during hospitalisation and after discharge.
