Clinical Research Nurse for Breast Research at UHW

Helen Vaughan is a Clinical Research Nurse. She graduated as a General Nurse in Cork University Hospital , completed a Bachelor of Anthropology & Theology with National University Ireland , Masters Population Health followed by a Certificate in Clinical & Translational Research with University College Dublin (UCC) and has a special interest in academic research.

Helen has worked in Clinical Trials and coordinated Academic Research studies for 10 years with the Clinical Research Centre (UCC) and is currently the Clinical Research Nurse for Breast Research at UHW

Current Projects:

Breast Cancer Proteomics and Molecular Heterogeneity Study (CTRIAL IE 0907)

Nipple Areola Reconstruction

Our Breast Care Nurse Orla Quinn attending the one-day intensive training programme on Nipple Areola Reconstruction using micro pigmentation techniques at the Stoke Mandiville Hospital, United Kingdom.

This will provide additional resources to the pre-existing Nipple-Areola reconstruction programme available to all patients in our South East Cancer Centre, University Hospital Waterford

This was made possible by the generous donations to our unit

A picture of our Lymphoedema Physiotherapist, Ms Fiona Fewer, Senior Physiotherapist Oncology/Lymphoedema, at work using a limb volume calculator purchased courtesy of funds from a recent donation.

Lymphoedema is a condition of localised fluid collection and tissue swelling commonly affecting the upper/lower limb following breast and melanoma cancer axillary and groin surgery. At University Hospital Waterford we are fortunate to have two expert Senior Physiotherapists working in the field of Lymphoedema

Dr Deirdre Plant donation
University Hospital Waterford Breast Care would like to thank Dr Deirdre Plant for her generous donation to our unit.

This was a result of her considerable fundraising efforts during her 26.2 mile sponsored walk, which took place overnight as part of a charity event, through the streets of London.
